We’ll outline below what charging costs you can expect as an electric car driver and how you can travel particularly cheaply with Clyde and AMAG.
Electric car charging in Switzerland: what costs are there?
The cost of charging an electric car in Switzerland varies depending on the provider and charging infrastructure. In general, there are three options for charging your electric car:
Charging at home:
The cheapest way to travel is by charging at home using your own wallbox, as you pay the regular electricity price of your energy supplier here. In Switzerland, the average is between 15 cents and 30 cents per kWh. For 2025, the median electricity price for households is 29 cents per kWh (2).
Do you own your own home and want to be as independent of fluctuating electricity prices as possible? Then it’s worth investing in a photovoltaic system. Once this has been paid off, you can drive free of charge using electricity generated from your own roof.
Our tip: the energy service provider Helion will take care of the installation of your home charging station from start to finish, so that you can charge your EV quickly and safely with solar energy. You can find out more on our Helion information page.
Charging at public charging stations:
Prices fluctuate significantly at public charging stations – from 20 cents per kWh up to 70 cents per kWh, depending on the provider and site.
Our tip: The AMAG charging network comprises a variety of charging stations at AMAG sites all around Switzerland. You can charge your electric car for a standard price of 28 cents per kWh here.
Charging at public fast-charging stations:
These are usually expensive and cost between 50 cents and CHF 1 per kWh.
Good to know: in Switzerland, parking spaces with the ‘charging station’ symbol are exclusively intended for charging electric cars. This means that the vehicle has to be actively charging the entire time it is parked. Anyone who continues to park their electric car in this type of parking space once charging is finished risks fines, which may vary depending on the duration and provider.

Where can I charge for free at public charging stations in Switzerland?
There are numerous options for charging your electric car for free in Switzerland – usually in shopping centres, hotels or restaurants. We recommend the online platform gratis-laden.com for finding free charging stations.
