Say goodbye to your fuel tank, and hello to a battery: we explain why sustainable mobility is the way to go and what the specific advantages of an electric car are.

1. Sustainability: you do good for the environment

Electric cars usually emit less or even no direct CO2 emissions during operation, especially if they are charged with renewable energy – meaning no exhaust fumes that pollute the air and contribute to global warming. By switching to an electric car, you will significantly reduce your carbon footprint and actively contribute to the energy transition.

1.1 What is Clyde’s position on sustainability?

Clyde offers the most sustainable and the easiest e-mobility automotive solution available in Switzerland, with a fully electric fleet. At the beginning of 2024, we removed vehicles with an internal combustion engine from our range out of conviction, despite these still making up around 80% of the cars currently sold in Switzerland.

What’s more, Clyde has a very special offer up its sleeve for homeowners with their own photovoltaic system: by charging the electric car through your solar panels, you’ll double the rate you normally get for the solar power you generate (based on: median electricity price in Switzerland). Clyde will reimburse you CHF 0.30/kWh for electricity charged at home – significantly more than the rate offered by local electricity suppliers. This means your PV system can become an attractive investment faster thanks to Clyde. Not only will your wallet be happy, but so will the environment.

2. Cost savings: the car will cost you less to run

Although electric cars are often more expensive to buy than those with an internal combustion engine, the costs to run them are significantly lower. Electricity is also cheaper than petrol or diesel; the cost of self-generated electricity from your own PV system is considerably lower than that of electricity from the grid. What’s more, maintenance costs are lower because electric cars have fewer wear-and-tear parts. Swiss state subsidies also significantly reduce costs, with many cantons subsidising electric cars with a bonus on vehicle tax, for example.

2.1 Just how affordable is Clyde?

One fixed price, everything included: Clyde covers all the costs. If you opt for the Premium option, even the electricity is included in your monthly payment. This makes our electric car subscription cheaper than comparable internal combustion engine vehicles on a lease.

3. Real e-motions: powerful, but without all the noise

Electric cars offer a truly special driving experience. They are virtually silent, impress with their unrivalled acceleration, and have instantly available torque that ensures a powerful and dynamic driving style. In addition, many models are equipped with the latest technologies and convenience features that not only make driving more pleasant, but also safer.

Once an electric car, always an electric car: I can't imagine going back to a petrol or diesel car. The crisp acceleration and quiet ride comfort in the Škoda Enyaq 80x SportLine are impressive. The Matrix headlights are worth their weight in gold and the vehicle is generally very sporty to drive with its 265 hp.

3.1 Which models does Clyde offer in its electric car subscription?

We have the right electric car for everyone’s taste. Whether Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, MINI, CUPRA or Polestar – your dream car is waiting for you.

4. Charging infrastructure: you can charge quickly in many locations

The charging infrastructure for electric cars has developed rapidly in recent years – including in Switzerland. An ever-increasing number of public charging and fast-charging stations are becoming available, with many cities and companies now offering free or discounted charging facilities. Charging at home is also becoming increasingly easy thanks to intelligent wall boxes.

I was sceptical as to whether electric cars were practical for me. After the Clyde contract for the Superb Hybrid expired, I opted for a Škoda Enyaq. Everything went perfectly, I was always able to pay with the Clyde Swisscharge card. A very convenient vehicle and the handover and exchange of the vehicles also went smoothly.

4.1 Is charging included with Clyde?

If you opted for the ‘Premium – with electricity’ option when setting up your e-car subscription, then electricity at public charging stations within our partner charging network in Switzerland and throughout Europe is included in your monthly payment. Charge privately – at home or at work – and we’ll offset this electricity consumption with a credit of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers that you can put towards your next monthly payment.

Conclusion

Switching to an electric car is definitely worthwhile. Emission-free driving, low costs, maximum fun behind the wheel and good charging infrastructure are making electric mobility increasingly appealing. For many, the switch is already a future-proof and environmentally friendly decision. And anyone who is not yet convinced is best off with a flexible electric car subscription from Clyde.
